Michel Adanson was a noted French botanist. During his lifetime, he assembled a large number of notes and documents for a projected but never completed scientific encylcopedia. As late as 1934, these notes were stored in 48 bundles in the castle of Baleine at Villaneuve-sur-l'Allier, but they were subsequently dispersed.
