Martin S. Caidin was born on September 17, 1927. He began writing in the field of aviation at the age of 16 and went on to author award winning non-fiction regarding space travel and space medicine. Caidin also wrote a number of fictional works, including Cyborg (which was the premise for the popular television series Six Million Dollar Man ). He also served as a pilot in World War II and edited AirNews and AirTech . Martin Caidin died on March 24, 1997 in Florida.

Martin Caidin (1927-1997) was an American author and aviation expert during the twentieth century. Caidin started his literary career duing the early 1940s, working as a writer for several aviation magazines, including "Air News" and "Air Tech" (1943-1945). He later wrote numerous non-fiction books, mostly about aviation topics, between the 1950s and 1990s, including "The Ragged, Rugged Warriors" (1966) and "Kill Devil Hill" (1979). Caidin also wrote numerous novels, mainly about science fiction and aviation topics, between the 1960s and 1990s, including "Marooned" (1964), "Anytime, Anywhere" (1969), "Cyborg" (1972), and "Beamriders" (1989). In addition to his literary work, Caidin was active in motion pictures and television. A movie version of "Marooned" was released in 1969. Caidin's novel "Cyborg" was the basis for the 1970s television series "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "The Bionic Woman".
