George Louise Becke, better known as Louis Becke, was a short-story writer and novelist prominent in the 1890s. He was a frequent traveller to the South Pacific islands, and his experiences are reflected in his many works. See also Australian Encyclopaedia and Morris Miller's Australian literature.

Australian author Louis Becke was an acknowledged authority on the South Seas, and his writing generally included large amounts of picturesque descriptions and authoritative passages of people and places in the South Pacific. He travelled extensively, but always returned to Australia, where his popularity was always higher than in Europe.
