George Washington Rodgers (October 30, 1822 - August 17, 1863) was a United States Navy officer. He served during the Mexican-American War, was Commandant of Midshipmen at the US Naval Academy, and commanded the USS Toga and USS Catskill during the Civil War.

Commodore Perry was born in South Kingston, RI in 1794. He commanded naval forces during the Mexican War. Perry was tasked by President Fillmore to head a naval expedition to Japan in 1853-54 to encourage the government to establish trade and diplomatic relations with the United States.
