English geologist Sir K. C. Dunham wrote extensively on the geology of Great Britain. His interest in the geology of New Mexico resulted in a Commonwealth Fund Fellowship, which brought him to Harvard University and placed him in contact with U.S. geologists. Dunham spent two seasons in the field, between 1933-1935, mapping the topography and the geology of Doña Ana County and the Organ Mountain range. He collaborated with geology faculty of the New Mexico School of Mines to produce his monograph, The Geology of the Organ Mountains, which was published by the school.
