Samuel Hoffenstein (1889-1947) graduated from Lafayette College is 1911. He had a successful career as a journalist, poet, and screenwriter. His humorous writing was featured in many newspapers, including the New York Herald Tribune. He published several popular books of poetry, and co-authored fifteen screenplays. Hoffenstein was nominated for two Academy Awards, one in 1932 for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and another in 1944 for Laura.

Samuel Hoffenstein, American screenwriter, has written screenplays for 32 films including An American Tragedy (1931) and The Phantom of the Opera (1943).

George Fitzmaurice, director, was born in Paris. He made his first film when he was 19 years old, The Quest of the sacred gem (1914). Since then he has directed approximately 77 films, some of which he also produced.
