Hugo de Vries (1848-1935) was a Dutch geneticist and botanist. He is known for developing the theory of mutation. De Vries is also credited as independently rediscovering Gregor Mendel's laws of heredity. He published his findings in "Intracellular Pangenesis," "The Mutation Theory," and "Plant Breeding."
