J.W. Lewin (1770-1819) arrived in Sydney, 1800. He was a painter, engraver and naturalist who published a work on the Lepidoptera of N.S.W. (1805) and "Birds of New South Wales" (1808, 1813, 1822, 1838). Macquarie made him coroner in 1810 and encouraged his painting. He died in Sydney 1819.
