Farley was born in 1890 and died in 1972. He graduated from Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1916. In 1925 he formed a law partnership in New York, N.Y. with Franklin D. Roosevelt, which lasted until 1933. When Roosevelt was elected President of the U.S. O'Connor was active in the U.S. Democratic Party and was also active in social welfare work. He was president of the American Red Cross and the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. O'Connor is considered one of the most important figures in the campaign to wipe out polio in the 1930's and 40's.
