Anne Fine was born December 7, 1947 in Leichester, England. She married and divorced Kit Fine. She received a B. A. Degree from the University of Warwick. She has taught English, been a freelance writer, volunteer for Amnesty International, and a writer of children's, young adult's and adult books. Her books have won numerous awards. Many of her novels examine subjects of social concern, homelessness, care of elderly, divorce, and family relationships. Reviewers have called her "one of the sharpest and humorous observers of the human condition writing for young people today". Alias Madame Doubtfire was made into a motion picture starring Robin Williams. She continues to write and lives in London, England.
