Wilfried Decoo is a native of Belgium - the Flemish side. He was born in 1946 and grew up in Antwerp. Wilfried Decoo obtained my B.A. from the Antwerp Jesuit University, M.A. from Ghent University - both degrees in Romance languages. As a teacher of French and history he worked a few years in Central Africa for the Belgian Cooperation. Next he went to BYU where he finished a PhD in comparative literature. From 1974 on Wilfried Decoo spent most of my academic career at the University of Antwerp, as professor of applied linguistics and language education. In 1999 the department of French and Italian at BYU asked him to join their ranks, but he also retains an affiliation with Antwerp. Wilfried Decoo is a convert to the Church. His wife is also from Antwerp. They have one daughter, Ellen, born in 1988.
