Born 15 November 1890, Eugene E. "Shorty" Miller graduated from Penn State in 1914 with a degree in animal husbandry and was an All-American football player, as well as captain of the baseball team, for Penn State. After a brief career in professional football, Miller went on to be a teacher, coach, and football official in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He died in 1966, and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1974.
