Francis Van Wyck Mason (1901–1978) was an American historian and novelist. He traveled extensively as a young man and then turned to writing. Over his career, which spanned more than 50 years, he published 65 novels, including several spy/adventure novels featuring adventurer Hugh North.

F. Van Wyck Mason was an American historian and novelist. He had a long and prolific career as a writer spanning 50 years and including 65 published detective and historical novels. He died in 1978.

Francis van Wyck Mason was born in Boston on November 11, 1901. He spent most of his childhood in Europe, but obtained his SB from Harvard in 1924. Mason was the author of suspense and historical novels. He was most well known for his popular hero, Hugh North of U.S. Army Intelligence, who stars in 26 of Mason's books. Mason died in Bermuda on August 28, 1978.
