Hide Profile

Ida Withers Harrison was born in Mississippi, daughter of Confederate General William Temple Withers. Her family moved to Lexington, Kentucky, following the Civil War; and she graduated from Patapoco Institute of Maryland in 1868. In 1879 she married Lexington native Albert M. Harrison, a Democratic party official and city registrar, who engaged in a variety of philanthropic projects.

Mrs. Harrison was also active in social causes, including education, women's suffrage, and pacifism. She served as a member of the Lexington School Board and the Lexington Public Library Board of Trustees, and served as president of the Kentucky Federation of Women's Clubs, and the Central Kentucky Women's Club.
