Alfred Benjamin Meacham (b. 1826) and his wife, Orpha Caroline Feree (b. 1828) were 1850 pioneers to Suisun City, California, where Alfred operated a marble quarry with his brother, Harry.

Alfred Benjamin Meacham (b. 1826) and his wife, Orpha Caroline Feree (b. 1828) were 1850 pioneers to Suisun City, California, where Alfred operated a marble quarry with his brother, Harry.

In 1862 they all moved to eastern Oregon and established Meacham Station. They were joined by brother John. In 1873 Alfred was appointed to the Peace Commission following the end of the Modoc War, eventually becoming Superintendent of Indian Affairs.
