Charles W. Wheeler was born on September 18, 1922 in Albany, N.Y. and enlisted in the Army at Albany, N.Y. on November 23, 1942. At the time of enlistment he was unmarried, had completed one year of college, and working as a buyer for a department store. Wheeler joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. where he was assigned to Company I of the 87th Infantry Regiment, but also served with Headquarters of the Third Battalion of the 87th Infantry Regiment. He was also assigned to Fort Ord, Calif.; Kiska, Alaska; Camp Carson, Calif.; and Camp Swift, Tex. Wheeler died in Loudonville, N.Y. on April 19, 2003.
