Wegner is especially known for secretly taking photographs and collecting other documentation of the ongoing Armenian massacres, in 1915, while he was a German soldier stationed in the Middle East. This correspondence to Werfel indicates that he was working on a novel about the genocide at this time, and initiated an exchange with Werfel upon reading in the press the news of Werfel's own forthcoming novel on the same subject (Die vierzig Tage des Musa Dagh).
From the description of Correspondence with Franz Werfel, 1933. (University of Pennsylvania Library). WorldCat record id: 155864762
