Edward Robb Ellis (1911-1998) was born in Kewanee, Illinois. He was a journalist and an author who worked for several newspapers and published four books. Throughout his career as a reporter, Ellis interviewed numerous political and cultural celebrities and his diary records his impressions of them. He was equally fascinated by ordinary people and prided himself on his curiosity and eagerness to learn. The diary is Ellis's attempt to capture the details of the world around him and to reflect upon himself and humanity.
