Composed originally for piano solo 1838-39, as part of Twenty Four Preludes, Op. 28. This transcription 1938. First performance Philadelphia, 28 December 1938, Philadelphia Civic Symphony Orchestra, J.W.F. Leman conductor. Only the 3rd prelude uses the full instrumentation listed above, the 1st and 2nd use approximately half the instruments.
