Keble was ordained by the Bishop of Oxford as a Deacon in 1815, and as a priest in 1816. In 1827, he published "The Christian Year". In 1831, he was elected professor of poetry at Oxford, a position he held until 1841. Works of poetry published by Keble included: the "Lyrica Apostolica," 1836; "The Psalter in English Verse, " 1839; "Lyrica Innocentiom, " 1846 and "Miscellaneous Poems", 1869(published three years after his death). His series of Oxford lectures on poetry (in Latin) "Di Poeticae Vi Medica" was published in 1841. Keble's July 14, 1833 sermon on the "National Apostasy" is recognized as the beginning of the Oxford Movement.

In 1838, Keble, E.B. Pusey, John Henry Newman and Charles Marriott began work on "The Library of the Fathers". From 1833 to 1841 Keble together with Pusey, Newman and others issued "Tracts of the Times". Later publications by Keble include: a pamphlet defending William George Ward (1844); several tracts on the George C. Gorham (Mss. 103) case (1850); two pamphlets in opposition to the Divorce Act (1857); "The Life of Thomas Wilson, Bishop of Sodor and Man" (1863); "A Litany of Our Lords Warnings" (1864).
