Author Philip Lindsay was born in Australia, a member of an artistically gifted family. He worked as a journalist in Australia, and published a book of verse there before moving to England, where he became a prolific writer of historical fiction. An expert on Medieval England, he also wrote biographies and criticism, and worked on a few films. He died in 1958.
