Pareja y Díez Canseco, Alfredo 1908-1993
Variant namesAlfredo Pareja y Diez Canseco (1908-1993) was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Part of the Generación del 30 and the Grupo de Guayaquil as an author, Pareja was also a university professor, Superintendent of Secondary Education, member of Ecuador's National Assembly, head of mission in the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, ambassador of Ecuador in France and to UNESCO, and Ecuador's Minister of Foreign Relations from 1979 to 1980. He wrote a number of novels and historical texts, including El Muelle (1933), Hombres sin tiempo (1941), La Manticora (1974) and Historia del Ecuador (1954). Among numerous honors, Pareja was awarded the Medalla Premio Nacional de Cultura Eugenio Espejo and the Gran Cruz de la Orden al Mérito del Ecuador, and Spain's Gran Cruz de Isabel la Católica .
