Hide Profile

The William A. Earle Papers fill one box and date between 1941 and 1988. The collection consists of biographical materials and his writings. Earle was a member of Northwestern's Department of Philosophy from 1948-1982, specializing in existentialism, phenomenology, and the aesthetics of the cinema. He was, in fact, largely responsible for introducing the continental philosophy of existentialism and phenomenology to the American academic community. The biographical materials include Earle's diplomas, his undergraduate convocation program, press releases, resumes, and obituaries. Earle's writings are represented by typescript article drafts, journal reprints, and draft and published versions of book reviews. A folder of general correspondence and related materials completes the series.
