Earle Raymond Hedrick (1876-1943) received his PhD from the Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen in 1901 under the direction of David Hilbert. He later went on to teach at the University of Missouri at Columbia. Milton Brockett Porter was an 1897 graduate of Harvard University.
