Wells, George, 1909-2000
Variant namesGeorge Wells was a well known motion picture screenwriter and producer. Wells was born in New York City in 1909 and educated at New York University. He wrote the screenplays for a number of movies between the 1940s and 1970s, including "Merton of the Movies" (1947), "Designing Woman" (1957), "Where the Boys Are" (1960), and "Cover Me Babe" (1970). Wells won the 1957 Academy Award for Best Story and Screenplay with "Designing Woman". In addition to his screenwriting activities, Wells also produced a handful of movies in the 1950s, including "Everything I Have is Yours" (1952) and "Dangerous When Wet" (1953). George Wells passed away in 2000.
