Stockbroker. John Valder was chairman of the Sydney Stock Exchange from 1973-1976, after which time he did not seek re-election. He was previously a political and financial journalist, entering broking in 1959. In 1967 he established Valder, Elmslie & Co. and was largely instrumental in initiating the N.S.W. Securities Institute. In 1975 he became a foundation director of Enterprise Australia, an organisation to promote free enterprise in Australia. He was an active member of the Liberal Party and chaired the 1983 Liberal Party Committee of Review.
