Sterrett, J. R. Sitlington (John Robert Sitlington), 1851-1914
Variant namesSterrett was born in Virginia and educated at the Universities of Virginia, Leipzig, Berlin, Athens and Munich. From Munich he received the Ph. D. in 1880. He was professor of Greek at the University of Texas, 1888-1892, Amherst College, 1892-1901 and Cornell University, 1901-1914. Sterrett lead numerous archaeological expeditions in Asia Minor and authored many books on classical topics.
