Loveman, Amy

Amy Loveman was born in New York City in 1881. She graduated from Barnard College in 1901. Loveman was the first editor of the Barnard Bulletin. She was one of the founding editors of the "Saturday Review of Literature", established in 1924. When the Book-of-the-Month Club was established in 1926, Loveman was chairperson of the reading department and in 1951 became editor. She received the Columbia University Medal of Excellence in 1945 and the Constance Lindsay Skinner Award in 1946. In 1956, friends and classmates established the Amy Loveman Memorial Fund which presents an annual prize for "the best original poem by a Barnard undergraduate".

Amy Loveman was born into a literary family in New York City, and graduated from Barnard College. She became a book reviewer for the New York Evening Post, and helped found the Saturday Review of Literature, where she worked as an editor. She worked for the Book-of-the-Month Club from its inception, ultimately becoming editor. A popular, valuable, and supportive editor, she devoted her life to literature and writers.
