Aamer Hussein was born in 1955 in Karachi. He lived in Pakistan until 1968, after which he attended university in India. In 1970 he came to the UK, where he studied at SOAS. After graduating he worked as a researcher for films and television, but in the 1980s he began to write full time. He has written books of short stories and other fiction, and has edited and contributed to other publications. In the 1990s he began to lecture and teach literature and creative writing.
