Biographical Note

Milton Marks served as California State Assemblyman (1958-1966) and State Senator (1967-1996) from San Francisco for over thirty years.

As a senator representing a district where AIDS had an early impact, Marks was an advocate for AIDS legislation, funding, and other government action at the State level. He co-authored SB-910, which created the California AIDS Advisory Committee in 1983 that was mandated to create a comprehensive statewide AIDS prevention, education, and information program in cooperation with the Department of Public Health.
