George Grenville, afterward Nugent Temple Grenville (1753-1813), of Stowe, succeeded his uncle as Earl Temple in 1779 and was created 1st Marquess of Buckingham in 1784. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire from 1782 unrtil his death and as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in 1782-83 and 1787-89. Before his elevation to the peerage he had been a Whig M.P. for Buckinghamshire from 1774-1779.
