Peggy Parish was born July 14, 1927 in Manning, South Carolina. She graduated from the Universtiy of South Carolina in 1948. Parish taught English and creative dancing. Ms. Parish was the creator of the Amelia Bedelia series for children. She wrote more than thirty children's books. Her works included fiction and non-fiction.
