New Jersey Council Against Conscription.
This organization was originally known as the Essex County Committee Against Peacetime Military Conscription, founded December, 1945. In February, 1947 the name was changed, reflecting its having absorbed other local, county groups. Close cooperation was maintained with the National Council Against Conscription and its secretary, John W. Swomley, Jr. The New Jersey Council was dissolved in 1949.
