Harmon, Millard Fillmore, 1888-1945
Variant namesMillard Fillmore Harmon (b. Jan. 19, 1889, San Francisco, Calif.-d. Feb. 26, 1945), U.S. Army officer, graduated from West Point in 1912 and earned his wings in 1916. He served with the 1st Aero Squadron during the Mexico expedition and flew with a French aviation unit in combat in World War I. A graduate of Command and General Staff School and the Army War College, he became Chief of the Air Staff, Army Air Force, commanding general of U.S. Army Forces South Pacific, then Army Air Forces Pacific Ocean Areas through World War II. General Harmon was decorated with three Distinguished Service Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was lost on a flight over the Pacific on Feb. 26, 1945 and declared dead on Feb. 27, 1946.
