Concord, Mass., resident; librarian, book dealer; board member of Thoreau Lyceum. During 1970's, member of several bodies devoted to management of Walden Pond State Reservation as natural, historical, & recreational resource. Walden Pond Advisory Council, formed to develop plan for restoration & preservation of Walden, 1st met Apr. 28, 1973. Reporting to Middlesex County Commissioners (then administrators of Walden Pond State Reservation), Council considered presence & location of boathouses, comfort station.

(Cont.) parking lots, & trailer park, relocation of Routes 2 & 126, prevention of erosion, Thoreau house site, historical interpretation, etc. Walden Pond Restoration Committee, subcommittee of Walden Pond Advisory Council, was formed to implement Council's plan as developed by professional landscape architects. Committee worked with Richard A. Gardiner and Associates to establish priorities & evaluate plans & participated in transfer of administration of reservation from Middlesex County.

(Cont.) Commissioners to Mass. Dept. of Natural Resources (bill signed July, 1974; effective Jan. 1, 1975). On Jan. 1, Walden Pond Advisory Council & Walden Pond Restoration Committee ceased to exist, their advisory role passing to Walden Pond Advisory Board, appointed to keep Mass. Dept. of Natural Resources informed about local concerns (the new board composed largely of members of Restoration Committee). Simultaneously, Friends of Walden Pond, non-profit citizens' group formed to encourage proper management of Walden.

(Cont.) Pond State Reservation, was organized; 1st met Sept. 26, 1974.
