Cutler, a lawyer and aide to President Eisenhower, graduated from Harvard Law School in 1922. He wrote two novels as a young man, neither of which were very successful commercially. While at Harvard, Cutler met western writer Owen Wister, who was co-founder of Harvard University's Tavern Club. Cutler wrote a comic opera in 1934 which was performed for the Club.

Robert Cutler (June 12, 1895 - May 8, 1974) was a banker, lawyer, and government official. He served as the Chairman of the National Security Planning Board from 1953 to 1955, and Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury from 1960 to 1962.
