These papers were largely generated by five sisters: Agnes Elizabeth Brown, Zaidee Brown, Harriett Brown Coolidge, Ellen Coit Brown Elliott, and Louise Brown Nash. Their brother Bolton Coit Brown is also represented. They were the children of Martha Coit Brown and the Rev. Edmund Woodward Brown of Burdett, New York. Several family members were associated with Stanford University as faculty, staff, and alumni.
