Douglas Woolf was born in New York, New York in 1922. He attended Harvard, the University of New Mexico, and the University of Arizona. He worked in many areas (including being a route driver, a journalist, a social worker, and a screenwriter) and for many years he was an itinerant worker who took time off to dedicate to writing. Often, he wrote during travels to other countries or ghost towns in the United States. He was a freelance writer as well as co-publisher and editor of Wolf Run Books. He published several novels and collections of stories.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces, where he served as Flight Officer in North Africa during World War II. He published several novels and collections of stories including The Hypocritic Days, Fade Out, Wall to Wall, Signs of a Migrant Worker, On Us, and Ya! John-Juan; Two Novels.
