Russell Hoban was born in Lansdale, PA in 1925. He has written and illustrated two non-fiction children's books and has written nine novels and over 60 children's books. Sensitively and humourously portraying familiar family situations, Hoban may be best known for his series of books about Frances, the badger, and her family.

American children's author/illustrator, born in Lansdale, Pennsylvania in 1925. Produced about fifty books for children, half of which were illustrated by his wife (Lillian Hoban).

Russell Conwell Hoban began working as an artist and illustrator in 1945. He was a television art director and free-lance illustrator for various New York advertising agencies, and taught at the New York School of Visual Arts and Famous Artists Schools. Among other honors, Hoban was given the ALA Notable Book award five times, and "Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas" (1971) received five other awards.
