Peter Blue Cloud is a member of the Turtle Clan of the Mohawk Nation. He began writing poems as a teenager. He was concerned about pantribal awareness and indigenous rights. His work stood as a symbol of Native Rights in opposition to European colonization. Blue Cloud is most known for his writing. He lived on Alcatraz Island during the occupation from 1969 to 1971.
