Simpson was born in 1880 near San Francisco, CA; left for the AK goldrush at age 18; enrolled in acting school in Seattle; acted with touring companies and appeared on Broadway; entered moving pictures in 1907, arriving in Hollywood to make a film in 1917; appeared in television films, and in more than 500 motion pictures, including Grapes of wrath, Girl of the golden West, My darling Clementine, Romance of Rosy Ridge, Beautiful blonde from Bashful Bend, Saddle tramp, Seven brides for seven brothers, Last command, and Friendly persuasion; he died in 1959.
