Nathaniel Merrill (1927-2008) was a celebrated American stage and opera director. He was the resident stage director at the Metropolitan Opera House from 1960-1985. In Colorado, he staged 11 productions for the Central City Opera (1958-1963) and later served as the artistic director of the company (1972-1979). In 1983, he founded Opera Colorado, serving as the company's artistic director for almost two decades.
