Hunt, William Holman, 1827-1910
Variant namesWilliam Holman Hunt was an English artist and painter. Despite his father's objections, he sought a career as an artist, and studied art at the Royal Academy, where he met Millais and Rossetti; the three of them co-founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Hunt's paintings are richly colored and highly detailed; many have religious or moralistic connotations. He made several journeys to the Middle East, and painted scenes of Jerusalem. He was extremely popular with the general public.
