The Irish nationalist, politician, revolutionary leader, and labor agitator Michael Davitt joined with Charles Stewart Parnell during the 1880s in support of the Irish National League, although his years of greatest political influence had already passed. After a short imprisonment by the British in 1883 he continued to lecture on political, humanitarian, and labor issues, and traveled abroad.
