Percy Cerutty was a champion marathon runner before devoting his time to athletic coaching in the 1950's. He successfully coached John Landy and Herb Elliot with his rather unorthodox coaching methods, and subsequently wrote six books on athletics training (and related health and philosophical aspects). He was born in Melbourne and died at Portsea.
