Loyal Martin Griffin, born in Ogden, Utah, on July 23, 1920, was a doctor in Marin County, Calif. and then a public health director at Sonoma State Hospital. Griffin's interest in environmental conservation lead him to help create the Audubon Canyon Ranch in Marin County, Calif., which grew to include wildlife sanctuaries on Bolinas Lagoon and Tomales Bay. Griffin is also the co-founder of the Environmental Forum of Marin, the Russian River Task Force, the Russian River Environmental Forum and the Friends of the Russian River.
