Edward Harris (1799-1863), born in Moorestown, New Jersey, was a gentleman farmer interested in birds. He met John James Audubon in 1824 and accompanied him on his 1843 expedition to the Upper Missouri and Yellowstone.

Edward Harris, 1797-1863, was an ornithologist, naturalist, and friend of John James Audubon, accompanying him on a variety of expeditions. Harris, who lived in New Jersey, was also interested in farming and kept meticulous records on the planting and harvesting of crops. He was also interested in horses and introduced the Percheron draft horse to the United States.
