Biographical/Historical Sketch

Eugene Earle van Tame1en, professor of chemistry, first came to Stanford in 1962. He received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1950. He was known for his work in synthesizing natural products and was the recepient of the Leo Hendrick Baeke1and Award, 1965, the American Chemical Society Award for Creative Work in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, 1970, and a Guggenheim Fellowship for the 1973-74 academic year.
