Eugene O'Neill, Jr. was the son of Kathleen Pitt-Smith and the playwright, Eugene O'Neill. He received a B.A. in 1932 and a PhD in 1936, both from Yale University, and then taught at Yale in the classics department. Later, he worked in the radio field.
