Committee of Concord, Mass., appointed in 1889 to arrange for gift by town of "some appropriate ornament" for twin screw gunboat "Concord." Committee consisted of John Shepard Keyes (Chairman), Charles H. Walcott, Edward J. Bartlett, Samuel Hoar, and Edward Waldo Emerson. Committee proposed bronze statuette of Daniel Chester French's Minuteman statue (full-size original of which was dedicated at Concord's North Bridge in 1875). Secretary of Navy B.F.
